The Arrowhead Library
System, in cooperation with The REIF Center, is bringing Orchestra of Fes and
Vocalist Francoise Atlan to the Hibbing Public Library on Monday, April 29,
2013 at 3:00 p.m.
Orchestra of Fes will
perform two traditional Andalusian classical compositions. One will be
instrumental and one will be sung in Arabic and Hebrew. Francoise Atlan
will join the Orchestra to perform three songs in Ladino, Hebrew, and Arabi languages.
The Orchestra of Fes and
Francoise Atlan will interact with the audience and teach them a refrain from
one of their musical selections. They will also demonstrate how each
instrument from the Orchestra is played and teach the audiences response phrases
in different languages.
Adalusian classical music
is at the core of contemporary Moroccan culture. The vibrant performance
planned for Monday; are present at most any Moroccan celebration or ceremony,
and refrains can often be heard dancing over the streets and alleys of
incredible cities like Fes, Rabat, and Casablanca.
This event is sponsored
by the Arrowhead Library System and funded by money from Minnesota’s Arts and
Cultural Heritage Fund.
Immediately following the Hibbing Crescendo Youth Orchestra will perform. Everyone is welcome to attend this wonderful musical event.
