Harry Bosch, is finishing out his career in LAPD's Open-Unsolved Unit with a new partner, Detective Lucia Soto. Bosch and Soto take on the recent death of Orlando Merced. Merced had been shot in the spine ten years ago and the shooter was never caught. Bosch and Soto are pressured by politics to solve the case quickly. At the same time Bosch is showing Soto, the rookie, what it takes to be a fine detective. Soto has her own agenda and reveals that she also has a cold case she wants to solve. Bosch and Soto work both cases simultaneously and produce results regardless of who is guilty.
