Readers of all ages will explore all things underground this summer as the Hibbing Public Library presents our Summer Reading Program “Dig into Reading” for children under 12 and “Beneath the Surface” for Young Adults/Teens up to age 19.

Our themed programs are about the wonders under our feet: vegetables, buried treasure, evidence of ancient civilization, dinosaur bones, animals, and much much more!

Hibbing Public Library will entertain with programs, Friday prize drawings, and story times, as well as the St. Louis County Fair Read & Win program for the month of July.

Minnesota Public Health Data

Minnesota Public Health Data Access is an online portal within the Minnesota Department of Health website that provides access to “health and environment” data.  Librarians, students, and the public can now access and download data for use in research projects, grant applications, and for public awareness.

Minnesota developed this portal in collaboration with the National Tracking Network which includes data available from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 23 states, and New York City.  Nationally consistent data and measures may be used to compare trends over time and geographic patterns at the county, state, and national level.

Musical Cultural Exchange at the Library

On Monday, April 29th, both the Orchestra of Fes and the Crescendo Youth Orchestra performed at the Hibbing Public Library.

The Moroccan musicians were part of the caravanserai and the Youth Orchestra was represented by some very talented area musicians.

After a very entertaining performance the two groups posed for pictures.

Tim Hetherington (1970-2011) was one of the world’s most distinguished and dedicated photojournalists, whose career was tragically cut short when he died in a mortar blast while covering the Libyan Civil War. from cover

Free Tickets

The library has a few free tickets for the County Scat Theater Company production of "Leaving Iowa".  It is a hilarious sentimental comedy about family and family vacations.  The show is on May 9-12 and May 15-19 at 7:30 p.m. except Sundays are at 2:00 p.m.  The location is the Encore Performing Arts Center and Gallery at 2035 Hwy 33 South (on frontage road), Cloquet, MN.

Pick up your tickets at the library and then call the theater at (218) 878-0071 to make a reservation.  Doors open 30 minutes before the performance.

Orchestra of Fes and Vocalist Francoise Atlan

The Arrowhead Library System, in cooperation with The REIF Center, is bringing Orchestra of Fes and Vocalist Francoise Atlan to the Hibbing Public Library on Monday, April 29, 2013 at 3:00 p.m.

Orchestra of Fes will perform two traditional Andalusian classical compositions.  One will be instrumental and one will be sung in Arabic and Hebrew.  Francoise Atlan will join the Orchestra to perform three songs in Ladino, Hebrew, and Arabi languages.

The Orchestra of Fes and Francoise Atlan will interact with the audience and teach them a refrain from one of their musical selections.  They will also demonstrate how each instrument from the Orchestra is played and teach the audiences response phrases in different languages. 

Adalusian classical music is at the core of contemporary Moroccan culture.  The vibrant performance planned for Monday; are present at most any Moroccan celebration or ceremony, and refrains can often be heard dancing over the streets and alleys of incredible cities like Fes, Rabat, and Casablanca.

Night Moves by Randy Wayne White

Doc Ford gets involved with a missing cat, an intelligent but stray dog, Tomlinson and his latest psychotic married girlfriend, Voodoo drug dealers, a Brazilian assassin and a search for 5 navy bombers missing since World War II.

Ford finds himself trying to keep his life in Dinkin’s Bay on Sanibel Island from blowing up in his face while protecting his friends and himself.
